The Executive of Queen Elizabeth II Hall in the University of Ibadan has opened a condolence register in honour of the former Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II after her passing on 7th September 2022.
This was made known to the public after the student executive body of the hall of residence released a communique signed by Public Relations Officer Ugbe Oluwasaanufunmi on Monday 12th April 2022.
The communiqué reads” The condolence register for our greatest departed Queen, Queen Elizabeth II is now open. You are encouraged to come around to pay respect to the Great Queen Elizabeth II”.
Since the opening of the condolence register, students and well-wishers have trooped in to show their last respect to the great monarch who ruled for 70 years. Amongst such is the Public Relations Officer of the Student Union, Olalekan Micheal Adekunle, OMA. He acknowledged that the death of the queen is not only a loss to the United Kingdom but to the entire world. He said, “Her Majesty has brought stability to Nigeria through her diplomacy and would be recognised for her exemplary leadership across the length and breadth of the world”. He however prayed for her soul and asked God would grant her a peaceful rest.
Queen Elizabeth II Hall in the University of Ibadan is named after the Queen herself, she performed the official opening of the hall of residence during her visit to the University of Ibadan, then University College in 1957.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died on 7th September 2022 at the age of 96.
