The recent elongation of the ongoing ASUU strike has forced students to take to the street to protest the incessant delay in their academic life and turn their future.
While on the protest ground and expressing their displeasure at the way the government is handling the situation, a Twitter user @The_BodeThomas recounted how a fellow student was assaulted by men in uniform while expressing their civil rights.
He tweeted ” This gentleman was slapped today when he challenged a motorist for taking one way during the #EndASUUstrike protest today in Oyo state. The owner of the car got down with his military escort and assaulted the young man who was fighting for his right”. An eyewitness, also recounted his experience with the uniform men. He replied ” A video of the man and the escort whisking themselves away when they saw that crowd was gathering. The escort legit brought out a gun and was cocking it to shoot at me.”
In quick response to the protest of the displeased students that have gained a leap of momentum, the office of the Minister of Labour and Employment has invited ASUU to a “Tripartite Plus meeting” at the Banquet Hall, State House Abuja.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU had earlier declared a 3-month extension to the ongoing strike to press home their wants which are hinged on the 2009 Agreement with the Federal Government. The strike had first been initiated on the 14th of February and had lasted for 3 months already.
