Team UI Redeems Herself Today in Football and Other Sports as UNIPORT Leads Medals table With 28 Medals.
It was another day in the office for the Team UI contingents at the ongoing NUGA games in the nation’s pride university, UNILAG. After a very unconvincing Day 4 of the competition, Team UI rose to her bidding and came out tops in the football category, especially after yesterday’s results.
The Female Footballers took to the field in the early hours of the day and thrashed their opponent from BUK with a 4-0 margin. The male team also followed suit with a 3-2 win against their counterparts from IAUE.
However, in the Judo face-off, Team UI representative, Hassan Oyedotun lost to Sadiq Abubakar of Federal University, Kashere. Also, in the “Oyo state battle” Rahmat Balogun lost to Naheemat Abdul from LAUTECH in the 46kg quarter-final of Karate.
In the Female swimming category, Team UI came second place behind UNIPORT. Also in Chess, UI emerged 4-0 winners against FUNAAB in the female category. Also, in the male category, Team UI emerged victorious against FUTMINA 3-1.
In basketball, Team UI couldn’t quality as the UI basketballers lost 43-37 against thier opponent. In handball, UI handers emerged 3-2 winners over BUK.
However, in athletics, team UI emerged 3rd placed in the high jump female category and also won Bronze in 110m hurdles.
The highlight of today’s performance for team UI was when Raphael Agboola won his 800m heat from behind running an impressive time of 1.59.16 and securing his place in the finals. After the mouth opening performance, an ecstatic Raphael was seen saying “I’m from UI, we don’t lose”. His response has soon become popular in this year’s NUGA games.

On the medals table, UNIPORT I’d heads and shoulders above other competing universities as they have amassed a total of 28 medals as at the time of filing this report. They are followed distantly by the host university, UNILAG with 14 medals.
As the competition grows into its later days, Team UI will be looking at improving on her strength and turning in fantastic results. We wish all contingents from the First and Best University the best of luck and an injury-free performance.
Kai. So painful for the basketball team.
