NUGA UPDATES: Teams Continue to Arrive UNILAG as NUGA Games Enters Day 2
The 26th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association competition, NUGA’22 has entered day two. Participating teams have continued to troop into the Nation’s Pride university to participate in the inter universities sports commission.
Even as athletes and their contingents continue to arrive, activities have taken shape in the games village as participants are undertaking compulsory COVID-19 test.
Also, various sportsmen and women have taken to the turf and the different arena to have a feel of the equipment and facilities that will be used in the competition. Earlier today, athletes were found training in the UNILAG sports complex and around other facilities that would be used for the competition.
Even as the competition is yet to kick start properly, the Vice-Chancellor of University Of Ibadan, Prof. A.O Adebowale has urged the contingents from U.I to give their best performance and ensure to not bring the name of the university to disrepute. In his departure speech to the contingents he said ” First, keep your eye on the goal. Focus on the medal. Give it your all. If you qualify to represent UI, you also qualify to glorify UI by your super performance. You are all young, energetic, beautiful and/or handsome. Because of this you will come under the pressure of distraction. You will come under temptation of self-indulgence, relaxation and indiscipline. A focus on the goal keeps you goal-getting.” He also added “Second, keep your eye on the name, University of Ibadan. You are riding on the back of a heritage of 74 years. That reputation should NOT be tarnished by you. And you know what tarnishes reputations in sports: cheating, drugs, unruly conduct especially disrespect to referees, coaches, teammates and your opponents. Kindly avoid all these. “
The inter-university sports competition will run from 16th-27th of March 2022 and is expected to produce the best of amateur sports in Nigeria.
