While the students of the University of Ibadan prepare to enjoy or endure the One monthly ASUU strike, news that two students of the university stole over 407,000 thousand Naira circulated the school in the afternoon of today Friday 18th of February 2022. As seen in the circulating video, the two students accused are Akinwunmi Tomilola; said to be a 200 level student of sociology and Olutayo Oluwapelumi, a 200 level student of Botany.
Although the investigation revealed that Olutayo Oluwapelumi is truly a student of Botany, Akinwunmi Tomilola is a student of the distance learning centre.
The trending video caught the attention of the students all around the school and the Students’ Union who immediately swung into action to see the matter resolved.
What really happened?
According to the investigation and story relayed by One of the accused; Olutayo Oluwapelumi, the story circulating is directly the opposite of what happened and she was just robed into an activity she knew nothing about.
While it is true that She had a relationship with the owner of the skincare shops and sometimes helped in the production of skincare products, she was never an attendant the accusations are false.
She’s been working with the accuser since 2019 and had no problem until last year when her boss had a skincare shop and she introduced Akinwunmi Tomilola to her. According to her, she introduced Tomi to her boss as a family member and recommended that she was employed she was a DLC student and will have time to help her take care of the store. They were so close that when the school didn’t give accommodation she had to put in with Tomi since she was her family friend.
However, trouble started when Tomi who she introduced connived with another employee to start stealing from their boss. Tomi and her accomplice had stolen money from their boss at different points in time during different promo sales and had used their accounts to receive payments instead of the store’s account. They stole so much, changed phones and had so much money to rent houses and do other “big girl things”.
Days passed, transactions went on and the boss noticed when a customer had a failed transaction, she tabled the account she used and alas, it was not the store’s account. The boss took it up and found that money at all times was not remitted to her, she searched their phones and found conversations between the two other employees where they shared spoils of money stolen and discussed which products they took. The boss instead of investigating further shared the money stolen between the three of them made cardboards and displayed their names to humiliate them.
As of now the case has been settled after the intervention of the Nigerian police and all parties have been released from police custody.
The Owner of the business has to make another video to prove Olutayo Oluwapelumi innocent.. cause not everybody will have access to this write up…
