The University of Ibadan student community, particularly the incoming freshmen, were relieved of their long anxiety to resume when the news of the results of the University Senate meeting broke on 21st January 2022. The Senate had approved Jan 30th as the resumption date for the 2021/2022 academic session.
In a bid to help the incoming fresh students have a hitch-free stay on campus, we’ve highlighted a list containing important items below:
1. Vaccination Identity
The University management earlier announced that only students who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed in the school’s halls of residence. This is in a bid to curtail the spread of COVID-19 infections amongst students. All students who wish to stay in the halls of residence are expected to present proof of vaccination.
It is expected that freshmen come with all necessary documents which directly or indirectly influence their admission into the University. Documents like O level, JAMB original, and Post UTME results, and other official documents like recommendation letters, passport photographs, admission letter, school receipts, birth certificate, state of origin certificate and so on. Many of these documents will be needed for some registrations, while the rest will be required for scholarship applications.
3. Kerosene Stove and kitchen utensils
It should be duly noted that the use of cooking devices like electric and gas cookers are NOT allowed in halls of residence. The University management frowns at and penalizes students who use these prohibited devices. In light of that, it is advised that students come along with kerosene stoves.
4. Scientific Calculator
This item is more applicable to students who were admitted to study science-related courses. The University of Ibadan allows students to use scientific calculators (CASIO, WAEC-Designated etc) for tests and examinations. As such, it is very necessary that students come with good scientific calculators for adequate preparations for tests and exams in their halls’ reading rooms, department or faculty reading centres and the University library (Kenneth Dike Library).
5. Good Reading Lamp
The University of Ibadan power supply is excellent, but in rare situations where the school experiences a power outage, a good reading lamp will suffice.
6. Smart Phones and/or Laptops
Lecture slides, in the form of Docs and Pdfs, are usually sent on e-learning platforms (LMS and Moodle App), WhatsApp and Telegram class groups for easy access by students. Hence, students should come with good smartphones and/or laptops to access these materials.
Also, apart from academic engagements, many lucrative online businesses which are of immense benefits to students require the use of smartphones and/or laptops.
7. Mattress, Its Accessories and Curtains
For a comfortable sleep or necessary relaxations, students are expected to come with mattresses and accessories like bedsheets, pillow and pillow cases. Use of curtains is also very important, as it prevents students from getting exposed to cold at nights.
