NYSC mandates Covid-19 vaccination for prospective Corp members.
The director-general of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, during his virtual address to the 2021 Batch C, stream II Corp members in Abuja, on Monday, 13 December 2021, stated that only completely vaccinated prospective Corp members would be allowed to participate in the NYSC programme come 2022.
This statement was made public on Monday by NYSC Deputy director, public and press relations, Mr Emeka Egemba. In his words, “from the next orientation exercise in January 2022, all incoming prospective Corp members (PCMs) would show evidence of vaccination before being allowed into the orientation camp for registration”.
The move follows the rising cases of the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron. The directive from the director-general was to ensure strict compliance to Covid-19 safety precautions.
The director-general, during his virtual address, commended the federal government, the presidential steering committee on COVID-19 control, the National centre for disease control (NCDC) as well as other stakeholders for the success of the just-concluded 2021 Batch C, stream II orientation course.
He also urged the Batch C, stream II Corp members to improve on the skills learnt during the orientation camp.
