Amidst Pain and Tears, UItes Pay Last Respect to Deceased Students
It was an atmosphere of sorrow, pain and anguish as students of the University of Ibadan paid their last respect to their fellow students who were met by untimely death earlier in the week.
It has been a terrible past 7 days for students and staff of the University of Ibadan as they have had to battle with the loss of 2 students. One of the deceased students was a 400 level student of the department of History and a katangite, Adebayo Ridwan. He was killed in what was presumed to be an armed robbery but now suspected to be a case of assassination. The incident occurred at Preboye world shopping complex in the late hours of Saturday 16 October 2021. The other student, Ms Oluwaseun, is a 200 level student of the department of Microbiology and a Idiaite. She was involved in a car accident just the day after on her way back from church along the U.I-major expressway, she was over by an excessively speeding motorist.
The candle night and prayer session that was organised by the Student Union had hundreds of students present in their black attire, also members of the Akeju led administration and the incoming Mascot led administration were present. The prayer session started at the SUB car park and students moved through the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Great Independence Hall and ended at the Queen Idia Hall.
Recounting on the times shared with the now-deceased students, Peace, late Ms Oluwaseun’s friend said “Seun was the first friend UI gave me. We met at Jaja during the medical screening, we exchanged numbers, and that was it. We were both Idiate, we go to CBN together for classes, gists, she was my KDL reading partner, etc. She was a very good Christian too which had helped our relationship. Seun is very quiet. She hardly talks. She’s beautiful in and out. Knowing her had been wonderful.
I miss her, but the consolation is that “she has fought the good fight of faith and has gone to glory. I love you but God loves you more. Keep on resting on the blossom of the Father. I believe we shall meet again to part no more.”
We all at Campus News extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and pray that God grants the fortitude to bear the loss. Rest in peace Dayo and Oluwaseun.
