Alumnus donates N20m books to UI

An alumnus of the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Prof Francis Gbenga Fashaunu, in collaboration with some members of the Economics Class of 1990, has donated books worth over N20m to the Department of Economics of the varsity.

In his address during the official presentation of the books at the Afribank Building, Department of Economics, Head of Department of Economics, Prof Adeola Adenikinju, said the books would boost future accreditation of the department by the National Universities Commission and other professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria

Receiving the donation, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Babatunde Ekanola, said the move was ‘significant’ and very encouraging, stating that the donated books would be of immense use, not just by the receiving department, but by all.

“I find this to be very significant and also very encouraging, and because you have deemed it fit to come back and to give back is something that’s very much appreciated. I also took note that the textbooks you’re donating will be very much useful not just for the department of Economics, but for other departments within the new faculty. Because you have texts in the areas of Accounting, Marketing, Auditing, Corporate Finance and Investment, and that’s very thoughtful,” he noted.

The gesture was part of activities done in memory of Fashaunu’s late father, Stephen Adebisi Fashaunu.
