Eight U.I Students Bags Honours At U.N Awards

Eight University of Ibadan students have received awards at the just concluded millennium fellowship of the United Nations.

The Millennium Fellowship was founded by the 8th United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in August 2007 at the U.N headquarters Massachusetts, United States.

The Millennium Fellowship (United Nations Academic Impact UNAI) is a semester long leadership accelerator connecting key leaders of university student’s organizations to improve their organization’s impact and experience excellence by increasing their organisation capacity. Though the Millennium Fellowship is part of The Millennium Campus Network ( MCN). MCN is a Boston based global non profit organisation that focuses on training the next generation of social impact leaders in university campuses through an innovative year long activity.

The program is geared towards building the skills and experience of future leaders and the need to increase their impact and solidify their career path.

The application process for the class of 2021 began last year and was very competitive with over 25,500 applicants from over 2,200 campuses across 153 Nations. However, more than 120 campuses worldwide (about 6%) have been selected to host 2000+ Millennium Fellows in 2021 among which the University of Ibadan is among.

The award was mailed to the recipient through their respective emails on August 7, 2021, and eight (8) students from the University of Ibadan were among the recipients of the award. The awardees are to be inducted into the Millennium Fellowship class and to be called Millennium Fellows and thereafter are to be acknowledged as Millennium Fellows of the class of 2021.
