In what many have termed as extraordinary, the University of Ibadan (UI), winner of 2017, and 2018 Annual Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Debate & Oratory Competition has defeated the likes of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), to once again emerge as the winner of the 2021 edition.
The sixth annual Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Debate and Oratory Competition conducted by the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students, Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) Chapter, today Wednesday, August 4th, 2021 at the faculty of Pharmacy, OAU, Ile Ife, had in attendance notable dignitaries, Professors, Pharmacy students and a panel of judges comprising legal icons, public speakers and media personalities.
The debate centred on three different topics;
I. Inadequate funding of Nigeria’s Tertiary Institutions: Should students pay more?
II. Should Nigeria divide to survive?
III. Is suicide an option?
After a careful comparison of the punch lines —presented by the representatives of each pharmacy school—, the number of points obtained, manner of presentation, dress code and composure, the Chief Judge, Dr Daniyan announced Mr Anushiem Chidera, Ms Enwunchola Goodness and Ms Raji Adedayo of the University of Ibadan as winners of the debate.
The winners were presented with awards and a cash prize of 50,000 naira only.
The Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Debate & Essay Competition initiative was launched in 2014 with a mandate to allow each year’s winner host the next contest.
