On Saturday 22 May, 2021, the University of Ibadan sent a special release titled “Physical Resumption of Academic Activities for the Rest of 2020/2021 Academic Session: A Rebuttal” through the office of the Registrar.
The message reads
This is to inform the University community and the general public, especially staff, students, parents and guardians that Management has not fixed any date for the physical resumption of academic activities for the rest of 2020/2021 Academic Session.
At its meeting on Monday, 17 May, 2021 Senate discussed all matters relating to the physical resumption of academic activities for the rest of the 2020/2021 academic session, and decided to set up an Ad-hoc Committee to propose a date and implementation plan.
The Committee is expected to submit its report on Monday, 24 May, 2021 for the consideration of Management
Given the above, Management hereby dissociates itself from publications which have gone viral on the social media on the matter.
There are still several speculations from reliable sources on resumption we would preferably not talk about as of the moment. As we have always stated, members of the University community should expect further details of resumption from the school.
There are no final decisions on when the university will resume, when/if the halls will open and if the halls will be opened to all or a special set of students, say finalists and freshers.
Hopefully, the school management arrives at a decision early enough and communicates to eager students and the general university community through her chosen channels.
The Students’ Union, still on the issues of resumption has however called a congress to firstly inform students on the privy current happenings and thereafter, make informed decisions. The Congress is to hold on Monday, 24 May 2021. All students are advised to make themselves available firstly to get proper information and then contribute to the decisions.
IN OTHER NEWS, the Presidential Visitation Panel headed by Jega who was anyway not present visited the Students’ Union yesterday, 22 May 2021. The panel arrived at about 10 AM at the Students’ Union building. They were accompanied by some University officials including the deputy Dean of Students.
The essence of the visitation was to see the facilities of the Students’ Union, their pain points and consider how they can be assisted.
It should also be noted that the panel earlier had visited some faculties including the Faculty of Technology.
More details and pictures on the presidential visitation panel meeting to come later
