Campus News Special Release On the Recent Rancour as Regards Accommodation Fee and Our Post On Monday, May 17 2021
Journalism will always come with its hard and low ends.
As regards the news with the headline “Full Details of the Senate Meeting on Physical Resumption, School Fees and Others” we’ll attempt to give clarity.
We’ll like to first state also that until now, Campus News has taken pains to provide students with credible news as consistent with our values as a company.
Also, it should be noted that an unscrupulous element we are yet to identify fully played truancy on WhatsApp in the early hours of Monday, 17 May 2021. In his post, he wrote using the company’s name and tag that “Students are to start preparing for physical resumption as the school resumes physically on 22nd May 2021”. This did not come from Campus News and we took efforts to disclaim it – which caused the “rounds” on WhatsApp yesterday.
However, at about 5 PM yesterday, Monday, 17 May 2021, we made a post that sought to give insights into the details of the senate meeting that held that same day in a bid to assuage the effects of the rancour that we had seen earlier in the day and also serve our audience at large as a news outlet.
In this regard, I’ll like to say that Campus News had no intentions to mislead anybody. We carefully chose our words. The post read, “with the recent development, the Halls of residence are expected to be opened from 22nd of May, 2021 with a ‘purported‘ fee of ₦17,000 which is ………” before it was edited in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, 18 May 2021. The word purported was carefully chosen. It should be noted that ₦17,000 was initially proposed to the school management by students’ leaders.
We also took the pains to tell our audience to check for more updates on our TV handle.
This is to correct UCJ’s overtone on the word “FAKE NEWS” as they have tagged Campus News earlier today in a post titled “FACT CHECK: Did UI Senate ‘agreed’ on 17k as payment for accommodation fee?”.
If we have any apologies, it is to the school management because we failed to add that students should wait for an official release from the school as we have done in previous times. On this, we take the blame. But on the word FAKE NEWS…. I’d like to say it is absurd and in all wise very inept and we’ll have no more comments.
Now to put straighter lines, a thing we came short in yesterday; students and the members of the university community should please wait for an official release from the university as regards decisions on physical resumption and other related matters.
Thank you
