7 Things You Should Know About The Black Panther

Chadwick Boseman was a loving husband, father, friend, colleague, mentor, and role model. His tragic death really brought tears to the public. We all know him to be Black Panther, the Wakanda Lord himself.

I really don’t need to introduce him to you but, I would like to share with you some facts about him. Let’s dive into this together.

1. Chadwick Boseman is an American but related to Africa

Obviously, he’s black but you never knew he is related to Yoruba in Nigeria, Krio and Limba in Sierra Leone. This was made known by Chadwick himself in an interview on The Late Show saying that his DNA testing indicated that he had ancestors from those places mentioned.

2. His first written play was ‘Crossroads’

This play was written when he was a junior student at New York City’s Digital Film Academy and was staged in the school shortly after his classmate was shot dead. One of his scripts, Deep Azure won him 2006 Joseph Jefferson Award Nomination.

3. His first screen appearance was in 2003

He took a role in an episode of Third Watch and also featured in movies like Lincoln Heights, Persons Unknown to mention a few. His first feature film was in The Express: The Davis Story in 2008 and since 2013, he had been acting actively with his first starring role in the movie 42.

4. He is married to Taylor Simone Ledward

Ledward is a singer from California State Polytechnic University Pomona. She was the lead singer of the school’s jazz band. They had secretly been in a relationship until March 30, 2019, when their relationship was first publicly acknowledged by Boseman at the 50th National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards in Los Angeles, California. They got engaged in October 2019 and married afterwards in a low-key ceremony.

5. He won 6 outstanding awards

These awards are:
Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture (2019 Black Panther).
MTV Movie Award for Best Hero (2018 Black Panther).
NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (2019 Black Panther).
BET Award for Best Actor (2018).
MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Performance in a Movie (2018 Black Panther).
People’s Choice Award for Favourite Movie Actor (2018 Black Panther).

6. Denzel Washington was Boseman’s benefactor

It was recently disclosed that when Boseman was accepted into the British American Drama Academy’s Midsummer Program, he couldn’t afford the payment. According to the famous actress Phylicia Rashad, who mentored Boseman while he was a student at Howard University. She had to call a friend who could help and that friend was Denzel Washington.

7. Chadwick was a caregiver

Even though he had been suffering from colon cancer since 2016, he still cared for the sick and terminally ill children. According to Nate Moore, Black Panther producer, he disclosed that both of them had been working together to put a smile on kids suffering from hell battling disease even during the pandemic although, they couldn’t leave their homes.
