China just warned the world about new cases of the deadly bubonic plague, should we be worried?

While Nigerians are busy debating whether or not corona virus is a scam, China just dropped another bomb; new cases of the bubonic plague, the same plague that killed not less than 70,000,000 people in the 14th century. Is that something to worry about?

Yes, history has it that the bubonic plague also known as black death of the 14th century was very deadly, estimated death was between 70 and 200 million. But at this time, it’s safe to say that the Media is capitalizing on the current pandemic to sell fear.



With the advancement in medicine that has happened between the 14th century and now, it’s safe to say that There  would never be an outbreak like the original. The causative agent for the disease is bacterial and we have advanced medicine and sanitation,  none of which they had back then in the 14th century. In fact, a little Google search shows that cases were reported in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

To speak with more statistics, Globally between 2010 and 2015 there were 3248 documented cases, which resulted in 584 deaths. The countries with the greatest number of cases are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, and Peru.

So dear, it’s safe to say that the bubonic plague is  Not uncommon, Rest and keep staying safe.
