American Basketball Veteran, Kobe Bryant, nicknamed the Black Mamba who was involved in an helicopter crash that claimed his life and eight others, including his daughter, Gigi, left a huge mark in the hearts of basketball fans and players worldwide. He had career several achievements – he was a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, FIBA America Championship gold medalist, won five NBA Championships, was an 18-time All-Star feature, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team, 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player, two-time NBA Final MVP winner, he currently ranks 4th in the NBA all-time scoring list for the regular season with 33,643 points, and 4th position also in the all-time post season scoring list with 5,640 points. Kobe Bryant could be regarded as one of the greatest ballers of all time.
For the University of Ibadan (UI) Basketball Team, they would not let this bereavement go easily without honouring him. Kobe was a bundle of inspiration and vibe to basketball players and youths generally who ascribed for greatness globally. The full court match in honour of Kobe will be coming up at the Awo Basketball Court, beside Awo Stadium, University of Ibadan on Thursday, 30th January, 2020.

In other news, the UI Basketball Team’s Coach, Zika Morph, is celebrating his birthday today. Coach Zika has been a source of inspiration to young basketball players in the University of Ibadan for years now. He’s led the team to so many trophies which includes a number of NUGA (Nigerian University Games) Championships,and a 3×3 Basketball Championship in China, after they came second in Africa. The UI Basketball team says “Happy Birthday, Coach Zika!”
